Hi, I’m Gv Freeman. I’m a founder coach, growth strategist. and serial entrepreneur and for the past 25 years I’ve been living at the center of a marketing, sales, product and self-care Venn diagram.
In 2007 I was miserable and unhappy so I decided it was time to makes some changes. First, I let go of alcohol. Not long after I discovered psychotherapy. Then, in 2012 I officially stepped onto “the path” and became a certified yoga teacher. Now, for the past ten years, I’ve found myself living two separate lives. The first, is consulting and coaching successful tech startups on how to grow their business. The second is a path of self-knowledge; drinking ayahuasca with shamans in the Amazon jungle, sitting for 10 days in silent meditation with Buddhists, studying Vedantic philosophy with an Indian Swami, and countless other experiences that have all shaped the way I live, work, and coach to achieve an integrated life.
Now I’m combining both of those path and encouraging people like you to come on the journey with me. I’ve taken the most transformational experiences of my journey – added a few amazing teachers I’ve met along the way – and am offering it to entrepreneurs just like you. So if you’re interested in learning more about yourself, going inside, and “Waking Up From the American Dream” then join us. The path is wiser than the traveler and you’re perfect and right on time!
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is the retreat designed for?
Founders, Entrepreneurs & Business Owners
Founders Thriving, at its very core, is a program designed to help business owners find more happiness, purpose, and joy while they’re building their business. These types of business-minded people often carry very similar mindsets and deal with very similar challenges that their employees rarely experience. That said, a die-hard “intrapreneur” may also be a great fit for Founders Thriving.
Seekers, Explorers & Bio Hackers
Some business owners have already discovered the recipe to living an integrated life and are simply looking for a safe and confidential space to explore deeper levels of consciousness. Others may be interested in “hacking” their mind and body to achieve higher states of productivity with less effort or experience mindful states of self-reflection through meditation and self-knowledge.
Many entrepreneurs suffer in silence with feelings of anxiety, overwhelm and burn out. Left chronic and untreated, this lands founders in crisis, divorce, hospitals, rehab centers or even the cemetery. Having started their business with dreams of freedom, they’re often trapped by a captor of their own making and in the throes of Startup Stockholm Syndrome. For these founders, Founders Thriving offers a new way to think and an opportunity experience some contentment while they grow their business.
This doesn't sound like a normal retreat?
Probably not in the “normal” business sense. Knowledge is stored in the mind; wisdom is stored in the body. Many business conferences and retreats are filled with presentations, business card swapping, and note-taking. Founders Thriving is 100% the opposite; intimate and nearly note-free. While a journal is encouraged to document your experience, there will be little need for note-taking. In an effort to bypass the “thinking” mind and work directly with the body, this retreat is highly experiential. Because when the body remembers, the mind never forgets.
Will it be any fun?
100% yes! While we will do work every day, there is also time every afternoon for you to relax, recharge, and enjoy your stay. Surfing lessons, massage, zip lining through the jungle, seeing slots and monkeys on a jungle hike, or just relaxing at the beach or pool are all options to rest your brain and body.
How will this help my business?
Dame Minouche Shafik, Director of the London School of Economics said, “In the past, jobs were about muscles, now they’re about brains, but in the future, they’ll be about the heart.” I believe that as we become better humans, we can lead our companies from a more grounded, healthy, emotional, and vulnerable place. If we can be better leaders for our teams, they can quite literally, “Build Something Better.” Today, our world needs better. We need understanding, love, and compassion. Brené Brown reminds us, “‘Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity and change.” Who wouldn’t want more of that in their company? Founders Thriving is a place to practice being vulnerable so you can hold space for your leaders and teams when they’re ready to do the same.
Why Nicaragua? Is it safe?
There are two primary reasons I chose Nicaragua to host our retreat. The first is cost. Costa Rica is nearly 2x-3x more expensive than Nicaragua for the same accomodations. On top of that, I have a deep desire to help others and Nicaragua is an incredibly poor country. On top of that, I believe that as each person does their own healing work, we heal the people and places around us. What better place to do our work than a country like Nicaragua.
And yes, Nicaragua is safe to travel. Statistically, it is the safest country in Central America. Nicaragua has come a long way in the last several decades. Since the Nicaraguan Revolution of 1978-1979, it has become the safest country in the region, outdoing both Costa Rica and Panama on this front. Although this developing nation is one of the poorest in the Western hemisphere, it is a beautifully diverse and culturally rich country that is remarkably safe, with low crime rates. Tourists should use normal, common sense when traveling around Nicaragua.
What will I get out of the retreat?
The goal of this retreat is for individuals to start the process of decoupling net worth and self-worth and leave with a greater and lasting sense of purpose, fulfillment, and happiness that you can take home to your life and your company. When we begin shifting our locus of happiness from the external (money & power) to internal (physical, mental, emotional & spiritual) it’s a lot easier to be happy with less.
In a few words, think of this as “adult self-care camp” where you’ll re-learn to be curious about life and who you truly are as a person.
What makes this different than every other conference I've attended?
I believe the difference between knowledge and wisdom is knowledge resides in your head and wisdom resides in your body. This retreat has been specifically designed to be experiential in nature. Unlike a conference where you take notes and snap pics of PowerPoint slides you’ll never look at again, when you deeply experience content rather than memorize it, notes are no longer required. The change is instantaneous and your body will remember all on its own. Additionally, this will be a small gathering of 20 people or less so you there will be ample opportunity for 1:1 conversations with both the guides and your fellow attendees.
What type of content will be covered?
The concepts of self-worth and net worth are deeply intertwined within almost every aspect of our lives. To explore (and possibly let go) of some of our most deeply held (and potentially untrue) thoughts we have to approach the work slowly and safely. We’ll do this by addressing our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies in an integrated way. The content presented will address aspects from all of those areas and allow you to leave with home practices that can be easily incorporated into your daily life.
Where does the content come from?
Topics will come from many schools of knowledge including Yoga, Vedanta, the Heroes Journey, cognitive behavior therapy, somatic theory, shamanism, entheogens & non-ordinary states of consciousness, and many other schools of knowledge and practice. That being said, one of the core values of Founders Thriving is that “universal truths are spoken in many languages,” so every participant is encouraged to bring their own wisdom and experience and content that is meaningful and personal to themselves and their peers.
I'm not a religious person, is this for me?
Nor am I so you should be fine. 😉 My teacher often reminds me that religion is a group activity often centered around a prescribed set of beliefs, rules, rituals, expectations, and dogma. Spirituality, on the other hand, is an individual activity. Spirituality is self-knowledge. Quite literally, the process of getting to know oneself (the self). While that could happen in an individual or group setting using various practices (such as Yoga and meditation), every person gets to decide what they want to do and believe. This retreat is simply a set of conscious experiences designed to help you remember what it feels like to be a human being…rathern than a human doing.
But still...it sounds pretty woo woo!
I’m not sure I can disagree with you on this point. While some of the practices you’ll be exposed to are pretty mainstream these days (i.e. yoga), there a lot of practices and methods (i.e. sweat lodges, sacred medicine & holotropic breathwork) that could feel new, different, and maybe even a little “out there.” Having said that, many of the teachings have been used for thousands of years in the East and South America and definitely nothing to be afraid of. No one will force you to do or think anything you don’t want to do but you will be encouraged to try new things. Founders Thriving truly believes that, “Universal truths are spoken in many languages.” If you’re a closed minded person just looking for a relaxing week on the beach, this is not the retreat for you. If you’re open to being exposed to the “pu pu platter of self-care” designed for the sole purpose of becoming a more realized human being then I’d love for you to join us. Net-Net…take what you like and leave the rest. You may just surprise yourself.

What It’s Like Working With Gv
Ciprian Borodescu – CEO, MorphL AI
I met Gv back in 2016 while going through a startup accelerator in the US and I did not expect the journey that followed. At first, Gv became a personal mentor, guiding me through the highs and lows of my entrepreneurial journey. In 2018 I started MorphL AI which was acquired by Algolia at the end of 2020. During this time, Gv advised me and MorphL on product and go-to-market strategy. He had a positive outlook on life and encouraged me to put things into perspective. It was immensly valuable to have Gv in my corner, going above and beyond to making MorphL a success and helping me unleash the leader in me. I’m grateful the universe granted me the opportunity to have Gv by my side as a mentor, advisor and coach. Today, I’m humbled and honored to have him as a dear friend.
